* ![]() Copyright Primal Pictures Ltd. Development of a computer graphic model of functional anatomy of the human heart. A fiber based muscle action model was used for the mechanical contraction of the myocardium. Each muscle fiber is equipped with contractile and elastic elements and is used as a local deformation and volume preservation guide. Patient-specific and simulated action potential maps were used to electrically activate the mechanical model. The model provides visually correct anatomical and functional detail suitable for medical education. The project was part of the "Algorithmic
Human Anatomy" project, partly funded by a SMART Exceptional
Award from the London Development Agency, UK. See related publications. *Project image featured on the front cover of Communications of the ACM, February 2005, Vol 48 No 2 issue, as part of the special section on "Medical Image Modeling". |
